In week 3 we are taught to know family members in Korean, and how to ask questions to be asked if we want to know the family members of someone we know.


The Family members vocabulary!

아버지 : abeoji : Father (Formal)

아빠 : appa : Father (Informal)

어머니 : eomeoni : Mother (Formal)

엄마 : eomma : Mother (Informal)

누나 : nuna : Older Sister by Younger Brother

언니 : eonni :  Older Sister by Younger Sister

형 : hyeong : Older Brother by Younger Brother

오빠 : oppa : Older Brother by Younger Sister


The Numberic vocabulary!

0 공 {gong} 1 하나 (hana)    2 둘 (dul)   3 셋 (set)   4 넷 (net)   5 다섯 (daseot)

6 여섯 (yeseot)  7 일곱 (ilgop)   8 여덟 (yeodeol)  9 아홉 (ahop)  10 열 (yeol) 

11 열하나 (yeolhana) 12 열둘 (yeoldul) 13 열셋 (yeolset) 14 열넷 (yeolnet)

15 열다섯 (yeoldaseot).



If we want to ask about other people's siblings, we can ask with:

 "dongsaeng-i iss-eoyo?" : (Do you have a younger sibling?) 

Then, when we are asked, we answer with. 

"Nde, dul iss-eoyo." ; (Yes, I have two younger siblings.) OR, "aniyo, opseoyo" : (Tidak Punya) 

 "Dongsaeng-i iss-eoyo?"  The pronounce, e, o, u is pronounced [iss-eoyo]. The final consonant double s, [seh] in [it] of [iss-eoyo], is prolonged and connected to the next vowel o, to be pronounced [itsseoyo]


If we want to ask more specifically about someone siblings, asked with 

"hyeongdo iss-eoyo?" : (do you also have an older brother?) 

If we don't have any siblings answer with , "aniyo, hyeongeun eobs-eoyo" OR, "Nunaga iss-eoyo" means no, I don’t have an older brother. I have an older sister.


If you want to ask about how many siblings, 

"Suji-shi, gajog-i myeoch myeong-ieyo?" : Suzy, how many members are in your family? 

Then answer with,  "abeoji, eomeoni, namdongsaeng-i hana issse-eoyo]" : My family is comprised of my father, mother, and a younger brother, or literally.

When you want to ask how many people :  "myeoch myeong-ieyo?".


+  [myeong] - used for people.  

+   [gae] is used for a unit to count the number of object.
