Definition of Tourism

1. (Sculled 1992:12) Tourism is the sum of operations, mainly of an economy nature, which directly related to the entry, stay, and movement of foreigner inside certain country, city or region, and economy gives the restriction, so that is much more economical aspect, but is not showing explicity, sociology, psychology, or tourism geographical aspect.

2. (Yoety 1991:21) Tourism is a journey in a temporary time from a place to another place, which is not purpose for business oriented but it is not only perform to enjoy the journey for the sake or recreation oriented.


3. (Leiper 1981:49) Tourism as an open system of five elements interacting with broader environments, the human element, tourist, three geographical elements generating region, transit route and destinations region, and a economic element, the tourist industry

Opinion about Tourism

Tourism is a person's activity or group of people to a destination or several, and is temporary. Tourism is related to elements such as environment, human, tourist, and economic. Also sometimes to enjoy the journey for recreation oriented.





Types of Tourism

1. Cultural Tourism, Cultural tourism deals with getting to know the culture of different people, including their rituals, the type of music, food, and other features of the communities that live there.


2. Adventure Tourism, Adventure tourism is more prevalent in youth and takes nerves of steel to tolerate the stress that comes with adventure. River rafting, camping, paragliding, trekking, and skiing are the most common activities people do to bring back thrill to their lives.
3. Religious Tourism, People flock in swarms to visit holy sites that are important to their faith.
4. Historical Tourism, Tourists often go to historical sites, museums, and even black sites to connect themselves to the past and sail through yesteryears to remind them of their forefathers and the struggle that they would have faced.
 5. Voluntary Tourism, Tourists often volunteer to help another country amidst a crisis. The most recent example is the Australian bushfires.
6. Culinary tourism, Involves tasting and experiencing the local and traditional food of a particular country, region, or city/town/village.
7. Ecotourism, Is a very broad category of tourism that involves a socially responsible travel to virtually undisturbed and pristine areas of natural beauty.
8. Space tourism, Is another newly developed concept in the tourism sector. It involves traveling to space for recreational or business purposes.
9. Sports tourism, as the name suggests, involves sport(s) and the excitement and enjoyment it offers, as its basis.
10. Environmental Tourism, Rich and affluent tourist are preferred to spend more visits to remote places where they get pollution free airs to breath.
